Duathlon has developed into the winter sport for triathletes. However it’s also the sport for bad-swimmers, non-swimmers or anyone who is scared of water, as no swim is required. It also attracts runners and/or cyclists looking for some variety.
An ironman triathlon has become the benchmark for tough endurance events since the concept was invented in the late 70s by a bunch of runners at an awards ceremony in Hawai.
Short sprint triathlons are ideal for beginners. The distances aren't too daunting and can be completed on limited training.
Triathlon is one of the world's fastest growing sports. Its inclusion in the Sydney Olympics gave it a huge boost. More recently the success of the Brownlee brothers, Olympic Gold and Bronze medallists has brought triathlon to a larger audience than ever before in the UK.
